SWEN LARSEN

Swen Larsen is a prominent farmer in Norway Township, who lives with his sisters Alphild and Esther, on the P. O. Larsen Estate a large acreage purchased by their father in 1880.

The first Larsen home is in excellent condition. Later a large stone house was built. All the stone was quarried on the farm. After the stone was cut and made ready for us, the refuse stone was placed in a kiln and burned steadily night and day for two weeks or longer until the lime was ready for use. The fuel for the fire was wood cut on the farm nearby. After the house was finished and all needed lime was used, the remainder was sold for 25¢ a bushel. An old Scandia Journal offering the lime for sale, is still kept by the family.

Swen Larsen raises prairie hay. alfalfa, corn, milo and wheat. The corn is fed to one hundred and eighty heed of registered Hereford cattle end the wheat is sold on the market. Vegetables and fruit for home use are raised. He has an irrigation well and is also in the Bostick District, using water from that source. There is a large pond built with local help end financed by Mr. Larsen.

All the buildings on the farm are in excellent condition. Everything, everywhere shows the love end care of the owners. The house, built of stone, with a frame addition at the back, is a beautiful home.

Something worth mentioning and not often found is a building which houses many things cherished because they belonged to the original owners as well as other things left by generations long gone. Farm implements used by pioneers in earlier years are found here. There is some stone showing iron after the lime was burned away that is also kept here.
