CLARENCE BREWER

Clarence Brewer, son of J. A. Brewer, was born in 1874 and came to Norway Township in 1886.  He attended District 93 and Campbell University in Holten.  Then he taught school for one year in Munden, Kansas.  He also graduated from Telegrapher's School in St. Louis.

In 1904, he was married to Julia Tiller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Tiller.  From 1902 until 1943, he was station agent and telegraph operator for the Missouri Pacific Railroad at Norway.  Clarence was a member of several telegraphers' and railroad organizations and a member of the Forty-year Veterans Club of the Missouri Pacific Railroad.  He was also a member of the Norway School Board for thirteen years, of the Township Board for eight years, and a director of the Norway State Bank for several years.  After retirement Mr. and Mrs. Brewer moved to Monroe, Michigan, where their three daughters, Mabel, Opal and Mary Ellen live.  He died in 1954 at the age of 78 years, in Monroe, Michigan.  Mrs. Brewer still lives in Monroe.
