MRS. ELLA PECK ROCKHOLD

Ella Peck Rockhold was the daughter of Philander and Roxanne Peck and was born April 13, 1857, at Phillipsburg, New York, and died November 9, 1926 at St. Joseph, Missouri, in her 70th year.

At the age of eight her Mother died and she then went to live with her aunt, Mrs. Pauline Rankin, Boston, Massachusetts.  She came to Kansas with her father in the early days and at the age of sixteen she began her life's work as a school teacher.  She was united in marriage with LaFayette Rockhold in 1877.  They reared three children, Arthur, Lottie Mae Preble and Olive Verna Nichols.

Mrs. Rockhold was a member of the Scandia Methodist Church.  She was a teacher for 42 years.  She taught in District #93 in Norway Township in the Eighties and Nineties for twelve years, and other districts in Republic County.  Her pupils throughout the years respected and loved her.  She filled a large place in the memories and affections of many boys and girls through forty-two years of teaching.

Mr. and Mrs. Rockhold owned the farm west of the river, the SE ¼ of Section 30.  LaFayette Rockhold was the son of Dr. J. M. Rockhold, who was a pioneer physician, and his son was reared in Union Township.  After selling the farm, they lived in District 93 and in the village of Norway for several years.
