PONTOS ROSS FAMILY and ALFRED HAMMER FAMILY

Pontos Ross was born in Trondhjam in Norway, Europe about 1837 and came to Michigan in America in 1864 and to Rockford near Chicago in 1865.  Then to Republic County in 1869.  He Homesteaded there, but the Indians drove him off.  He again filed and proved up on a homestead.  Mr. Ross married Ingeborg Lekke in America.  She was born near Hüverod near Stockholm, Sweden in 1849.  She came to America and to Junction City.  They were the parents of eleven children.  Their daughter Esther married Alfred Hammer, and they own and live on his father's, Peder Hammer's, homestead, a mile and a half northeast of Norway.  They have four daughters - Evelyn Wagor, Denver, Colorado; Elnora Whitney, Concordia, Kansas; Anita Cory, Haysville, Kansas; Naomi Barleen, Concordia, Kansas; and one son, Clarence, living in South Carolina.

Mrs. Pontos Ross died in 1940 at the age of 91 years.  Mr. Ross died in 1917 at the age of 80 years.
