THE MERICA AND IRELAND FAMILIES

Joseph Merica, Sr. and Lizzie Merica had a homestead in Sec. 17.  They had two sons, Joseph, Jr. and S. Merica, and two daughters, Racheal and Ellen.  Mr. Merica Sr. died in Jamestown in the early eighties and is buried there.  Later Mrs. Merica married George Ireland.  Joe Merica, Jr. lived in Section 17 SW 4.  Their son, Charles William Ireland married Matilda Peterson.

Their children were; Harry J., Betty, La Vare, Charles, George Wm., and Leota.

Betty married Mr. Kersen.  They had two daughters and two sons.

Charles has two daughters.  George William and his wife Gladys have two daughters, Carol Jean and and Margaret.

Leota May married Raymond Falk.  They have two daughters, Eula and Elizabeth.  Eula married John D. Thompson, and they have two sons.  Elizabeth married Cory Elliot, and they have one daughter, Johanna.

Mrs. Lizzie Ireland was one of the very earliest teachers, who taught in dugouts.  She died in Natoma, Kansas in 1939.

Preserved Ireland was a Civil War Veteran, Co. C-33rd Reg. Wisconsin Inf.
