OLD SETTLERS REUNIONS IN SOUTHWEST NORWAY TOWNSHIP

The Old Settlers Pioneer Day reunions were usually held in Scott's grove.  They were very popular and well attended by as many as five hundred at some of the meetings.

Programs consisted of memorials for those pioneers who were deceased during the previous year, short talks by the older citizens, and musical numbers, both instrumental and vocal.  One or more speakers discussed various topics of interest at that time.  Sometimes there was a ball game during the morning and at noon there was always a basket dinner.

After being held for a period of seven years, these reunions were discontinued in the early Forties.

Officers throughout the years were James D. Carney, Mrs. Dave Dickerhoof, Warren Scott, Alex Scott, and Ray Johnson.

Speakers were J. Dougherty of Republic, Ed Cory of Wayne, Luman Chapman of Belleville, and John David of Norway.
