In 1946 the Norway Township Activity Association organized for the purpose of placing in Norway a Memorial honoring the Veterans of all American Wars. The committees decided to purchase a 60-foot flag pole, a large flag 10x15 feet, and a native Kansas stone marker to be placed at the north end of Main Street.
On November 11, 1947, dedication services were held. A basket dinner was served at noon after which the services in charge of the Scandia American Legion were held. The late Judge Vance was the speaker and the Junior High School Band from Belleville furnished musical numbers. Milton Stensaas was chairman. The day was beautiful and a large crowd attended. Lawrence Hugos was Pres.; of N.T.A.A., Madge B. Dickerhoof was Sec.-Treas.; there were also various committees.
