"Tradition" says that the Cardinal Club was planned by four girls at a swimming party and organized a short time later in 1928. Also, Tradition says that the girls were all members of the basketball team who wore red suits and from that came the name "Cardinal". The charter members were: Opal Brewer, Mary Ellen Brewer, Minta Walter, Winona Wright, Sarah Wright, Clarice Ross, Helen Larsen, Ollie Hugos and Reba Hugos. In the Social Items in the Scandia Journal July 21, 1938 - "Mrs. Jack Larson entertained the Cardinal Club with these members present; Mrs. Merle Wright, Mrs. Vernon Wright, Mrs. Donald Wright, Mrs. Lloyd Norris, Mrs. Marten Larson and Misses Clarice Ross and Ollie Hugos. Two guests, Mrs. Melvin Hillary and Miss Florena Stensaas. Cardinal Club has seventeen members.
