In 1961, my Great-Grandmother's Sister-in-law, Madge Bischoff Dickerhoof, wrote "THIS IS A STORY of NORWAY VILLAGE and NORWAY TOWNSHIP in REPUBLIC COUNTY, KANSAS from 1869 to 1961". My copy has some damage, but this blog is an effort to transcribe the text as accurately as possible (including embedded flaws), and make it available to other members of our family...however distant.

"Welcome Home" for the Veterans of World War I
In the fall of 1919, Norway Township sponsored a "Welcome Home" for its Veterans of World War I. The Celebration featured a barbecued beef dinner at noon, a basketball game and a program in the afternoon, and a dance for the Veterans and their guests in the evening. John Hugos prepared the barbecued beef. A huge crowd attended and gave the boys a real "Welcome home."
